Varicose Veins

Laser Ablation

Laser Ablation Columbus, Dublin,Hilliard,Upper Arlington,Westerville,New Albany,Powell,Lewis Center,Gahanna,Grove City,ReynoldsburgLaser ablation uses targeted laser energy to close the vein shut and helps you look and feel better fast. The benefits of the procedure are relief from heaviness, aches, even swelling in the legs; in addition to an overall wellness of being. You will have the confidence to show off your legs, regardless of the weather or season.

The laser ablation procedure is a minimally invasive laser procedure in treating varicose veins without scarring. The laser energy minimizes the vein walls, shrinking them and closing the faulty vein so that the blood cannot flow through it. This eliminates the bulging of the vein at its source. After the treatment, the blood in the faulty veins will be diverted to the many normal veins in the leg.

The procedure takes about 45 minutes with local anesthetic and is done on an outpatient procedure basis.

RF Closure

The radio frequency procedure is a minimally invasive treatment alternative for patients with a condition known as superficial venous reflux, often resulting in varicose veins and other painful symptoms. Varicose veins are known for their distinctive blue color and bulging appearance on the skin. This is an outpatient procedure performed in doctors' office. Local anesthesia is used to ensure comfort during treatment. Using a single needle stick or a small incision, a thin catheter is inserted into the greater and lesser saphenous veins. The catheter delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy to the vein wall, causing it to heat, collapse and seal shut. Once the diseased vein is closed, other healthy veins take over and empty blood from your legs. As normal return flow is re-established, your symptoms should improve noticeably.

Phlebectomy

Phlebectomy is the removal or disruption of the dilated, superficial, ropey-like veins. This is often done in conjunction with one the above listed procedures. However is can be as its own procedure, or with superficial lasering or sclerotherapy.

Spider Veins

Laser Therapy

This newer technique of treating spider veins uses laser or intense pulse light and can be used to selectively damage or destroy abnormal veins including spider veins and unsightly vascular lesions. Laser and the intense light therapy is more suited for vascular lesions slightly deeper in the skin. This treatment may be recommended when sclerotherapy does not effectively treat the superficial vein. Two to four treatments may be required depending on the number and size of the lesions. This can be preformed on the body head to toe.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy, or injection therapy, is a non-surgical procedure in which a solution is injected into the problem varicose veins or spider veins in order to cause its disappearance. Sclerotherapy is done in-office using small needles. The procedure does not take more than 30-60 mins and can even be done during an office lunch break.

A variety of solutions are used to do sclerotherapy. The dosage is usually adjusted based on the size of the veins. There is a little sting associated with each injection. The burning sensation lasts few seconds. Most patients find the discomfort of treatment to be minimal. No surgical incisions are made and anesthesia is not necessary. When a problem vein is closed off via sclerotherapy, the blood will re-route through the normal veins and flow much more efficiently.

Diagnostic Ultrasound

An ultrasound is necessary to complete a careful clinical examination of the leg veins prior to treatment. State of the art ultrasound technology is used to assess the veins which cannot be seen through the skin. This careful examination is painless and helps to pinpoint the source of the problem in blood flow.

Duplex ultrasound provides accurate images of the blood vessels in the legs. Ultrasound shows the direction of blood flow in the veins. This is an important recording of the precise location(s) of leaking valves.

By obtaining an accurate mapping of the veins and exact problem areas, we are then able to plan a course of treatment specific to your needs. This accurate diagnostic tool greatly increases the benefit of treatment and in most cases eliminates the recurrence rate. Following your consultation and diagnostic ultrasound, we will discuss recommendations with you. Once you and the Physician have agreed upon a treatment plan, ultrasound guided procedures may be necessary in eliminating areas of malfunction in venous flow.

Compression Stockings

Compression stockings are universally recommended for both non-surgical and surgical treatment of varicose veins. Many studies have been conducted in the use of compression for varicose veins. The use of compression stockings following treatment is shown to increase benefits of therapy. It is also used as a conservative measure in the management of symptoms of varicose veins. It may be beneficial to try compression stockings for symptom relief prior to treatment. Relief of symptoms with the use of compression stockings is often relative to the size and extent of the patient’s venous problems. Our office will recommend the amount and type of compression that will compliment your individual needs.
