Varicose veins are not only unattractive, they can be quite painful. Spider veins are the annoying little relatives of varicose veins that tend to appear all over the legs. While they do not cause physical pain, they can definitely hinder how you choose your wardrobe. Laser ablation is an effective treatment for both varicose and spider veins.

Laser ablation uses targeted laser energy to close the vein. The laser energy minimizes the vein walls, shrinking them and closing the faulty vein so that the blood cannot flow through it. This eliminates the bulging of the vein at its source. After the treatment, the blood in the faulty veins will be diverted to the many normal veins in the leg.

You do not have to live with the discomfort of varicose veins or the appearance of spider veins. Laser ablation relieves the heaviness, aches, and swelling of the legs and avoids the possibility of scarring. Since it is a minimally invasive procedure, you can expect the session to last about 45 minutes. Our doctors administer a local anesthetic and the laser treatment is performed in our comfortable office.

Wear what you want and feel terrific. It’s possible with an Artemis vein treatment.

DIAGNOSIS
Vein conditions are diagnosed by Artemis through painless ultrasound imaging to observe the flow of blood through the veins. Laser ablation uses targeted laser energy to close the vein. Recognizing & Diagnosing The Symptoms of Spider and Vericose Veins

Understanding Vein Disease: Recognizing and Diagnosing The Symptoms of Spider and Vericose Veins

Vein disease is a common affliction that is treatable.  Although more commonly found in women, nearlly half of all adults will develop some kind or vein problem or vein disease at some point in their lives.  Fortunately, if symptoms are caught early, more serious issues may be prevented.

Arteries move oxygenated blood from your heart to all parts of the body.  The venous system helps to move blood through the body’s circulatory system.  Oxygen depleted blood is then returned through the blood vessels and back to the heart.  Blood flow is controlled by a series of one way valves.  When valves fail to function properly, allowing the blood to leak or flow backwards, disease develops.  This backward flow, called venous reflux, is what initiates problems within the vessel structure.

Spider and vericose veins are the most common types of vein problems.  Spider veins sit just below the surface of the skin and usually appear as red or blue blotches on the legs.  Appropriately named, they resemble a spider with long skinny legs radiating out from the blotchy center.  Despite their distinctive and unsightly appearance, spider veins don't typically pose any real threat other than a little bruise to your ego.

Vericose veins are also superficial and lie below the surface of the skin, but they are more serious and often require medical attention.  When blood that is meant to flow to the heart backs up, it pools in the superficial vessels just under the skin surface in your legs.  This results in a distinct bulging, twisted and lumpy look often quite noticeable on the surface of the legs. Being both unattractive and often painful, left untreated, they can lead to blood clots, skin damage, inflammation and leg ulcers.

In addition to the appearance of spider and varicose veins, other symptoms may include darkening of the skin and discoloration, inflammation, itching, burning or complaints of leg heaviness, pain or tenderness along the affected areas.  Another common complaint is the onset of restless leg syndrome.  Occurring typically at night, the muscles of the leg contract and twitch in an effort to push the blood out of the leg and back toward the heart.

Because it is so visible, blood vessel disease is fairly easy to diagnose.  Because they are so aesthetically undesirable, many people prefer to have them removed.  With the latest technologies today, diagnosis and vein treatments can be handled under one roof providing both the medical and cosmetic results and treatments are often covered fully or partially by most insurance companies.

What is vein disease? FAQ’s on Vein Health and Treatment

What is vein disease? FAQ’s on Vein Health, Vein Treatment and Prevention of Vein Problems

Vein disease is a disease in which the veins have trouble carrying the oxygen depleted blood back to your heart for oxygenation. Although heredity is the primary cause, 20 percent more women are affected by vein disease than men.

Why are Women More Affected than Men?

Mainly- pregnancy.  Pregnancy causes stress on the veins, especially during prolonged periods of sitting or standing. Once the leg veins become damaged by over exertion, elevated blood pressure can cause blood to pool in the static area.

What is the Recommended Treatment for Vein Disease?

Early detection through screening or consulting a vein treatment physician are a great first step. An ultrasound evaluation can provide an immdeiate report to identify potentially dangerous veins.  Treatment may include advanced laser ablation to close or shrink the faulty, bulging vein so that blood can no longer flow through it. This also removes the unsightly vein, aesthetically enhancing the leg.

What are the Consequences of Untreated Vein Disease?

Aside from leg pain, ugly spider veins, varicose veins or ulcers can lead to thrombosis or blood clots, if left untreated.  If the blood clot travels to the lungs, it becomes life threatening.  Blood clots can also cause a stroke or heart attack, both which may be debilitating or life threatening.

What are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are swollen, twisted veins that appear close to the surface of the skin.  With damaged valves, they hold more blood at a higher pressure than they should.  The pressure forces fluid into the surrounding tissue, often creating an itching or burning feeling in the affected areas. If left untreated, symptoms will likely worsen and may lead to venous ulceration.

What is Venous Ulceration?

Venous leg ulcers are areas where the skin has died and caused a sore.  Ulcers may be as small as a penny or may circle the entire leg. They are painful, smelly open wounds that are puss-filled and may last for years. They most often occur when vein disease goes untreated for a lengthy amount of time.

How Can I Prevent Vein Disease?

Regular exercise, a healthy diet and non-smoking atmosphere will reduce your risks for certain types of vein disease.  Maintain a healthy body weight, avoid prolonged sitting or standing and elevate your legs when they become fatigued. Pay attention to the signs and symptoms of vein problems and get regular screenings to prevent more serious issues down the road.

Ultrasound evaluations can provide immediate reports.  Diagnosis and treatment are available under one roof at any Artemis Laser and Vein Treatment center.  Additonally, many of these treatments may be fully or partially covered by most insurance companies, so don’t wait to get a consultation if you have visible symptoms.

Beautiful LEG FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Cellulite Treatments, Varicose Veins And The Best Options For Beautiful Legs

What causes cellulite on a woman’s body?
Cellulite consists of small fat pockets that lie just below the surface of the skin creating an orange peel or dimpled appearance on a woman’s thighs, hips, or buttocks. When the connective tissues that separate the fat pockets tighten or begin to pull, it can cause the fatty areas to bulge.

If I just exercise long and hard enough, can I lose the cellulite on my legs?
Sadly, although exercise may always help with the muscle tone of your legs, it won’t likely change the condition of the skin’s thickness, tautness or the structure of the fat cells below the surface of the skin. Dimples may still remain, even on the fittest of legs.

Why don’t creams or topical treatments work to eliminate cellulite?
Treating cellulite topically won’t change the structure of the skin or tissue beneath the skin that is actually pulling and causing fat pockets to bulge.  Topical creams may help to improve the health of the skin’s surface, but the cellulite will prevail underneath the skin.

What is the most effective treatment today to eliminate cellulite?
Vasersmooth is one of the latest and most advanced cellulite treatments that can eliminate the bulging fat and remove the structural tissues that actually cause the skin to dimple and pucker. Never before has there been a more effective way of eliminating the cellulite and smoothing out the legs for a more youthful and supple appearance.  Vasersmooth is both minimally invasive and can be done with a local anesthetic during an office visit.

What are spider or varicose veins?
Typically appearing on the legs, spider and varicose veins are the most common types of vein problems.  Spider veins sit just below the surface of the skin and usually appear as red or blue blotches on the legs.  Varicose veins are also superficial and lie below the skin’s surface but these veins are more pronounced, more serious and may require medical attention.  When blood that is meant to flow to the heart backs up, it pools in the vessels just under the skin.  The result is a distinct bulging, twisted vein that is often quite noticeable. Being unattractive and often painful, they can lead to blood clots, skin damage, inflammation or leg ulcers, when left untreated.

What are the best treatments to remove unsightly leg veins today?
Ultrasound is the best means for diagnosing and identifying vein issues in the legs.  Once identified, laser ablation is the most effective treatment today to shrink the unhealthy vein and eliminate the bluish color or bulge on the skin. The treatments are minimally invasive and can be done in an office visit.  Don’t wait to schedule a consultation if you have concerns about the veins in your legs.  Many insurance plans cover this type of procedure today.

How to have smooth beautiful legs and battle Vein buldges

How to Have Smooth, Beautiful Legs for Women Who Battle the Bulge of Veins or Cellulite

Do a search today on how to have beautiful legs and what you’ll find is article after article on how to exercise more, find the right self tanner and how to shave properly to have smooth beautiful skin without a razor burn or ingrown hairs.  Although you may appreciate all these great beauty tips for the 18-20 year old, what do you do if you happen to be older?  If you have cellulite, varicose veins or sun damage from years of over indulging in those long days at the beach, no amount of exercise or self-tanner is going to make your legs look youthful and supple overnight.  It’s a tough pill to swallow, but there is still hope.

Many women today have lost hope and they simply try to either avoid exposing their legs, which means long pants, long skirts or long faces as they graciously decline pool parties and beach barbeques.  If you are one of these women who is saying no to life because of being self-conscious of your cellulite or varicose veins, hang in there ladies, the cavalry is coming!

The advancement of laser technology is making huge strides in the beauty industry and if you have always wanted beautiful legs, now is your chance.  Lumpy, bumpy varicose veins can now be removed in a simple office visit and although the main purpose is to repair them to correct proper blood flow, the end result is gorgeous.  The veins beneath the surface can be diagnosed via ultrasound technology and then minimized or closed with laser ablation.  The treatment is painless and ultimately a good, long-term solution.  Because varicose veins can become worse over time and can often be quite painful, the treatment is best done sooner, rather than later. In one treatment, you can improve your vein health and walk out with more beautiful, sexier legs.

If cellulite is your nemesis and your reason for hiding your “could be” gorgeous gams, then there is also hope for you.  Vasersmooth is one of the latest and most advanced cellulite treatments that can melt the bulging fat and remove the structural tissues that actually cause the skin to dimple and pull in the first place.  Never before has there been a more effective way of eliminating the dreaded cottage cheese thighs and smoothing your legs for a more youthful and supple appearance.  Stop wasting your money on ineffective creams and topical solutions that obviously do nothing more than shrink your pocket book and your leg confidence.  Vasersmooth is minimally invasive and can be done with a local anesthetic and in one office visit. Get ready to say, “yes” to beautiful legs, smoother skin and summer fun.
